INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE FOR OVER 25 YEARS!
Over the last 26 years, Alex has been a key contributor to Australian agricultural industries, especially in red meat industry. Alex completed his PhD in 1996, which focussed on carcase development and maintenance efficiency. Alex then led national R&D projects for MLA for 18 years in sheep and beef genetics and in the development of MSA optimisation and the MSA Index. Throughout those years, Alex established a reputation as an industry leader in genetics, objective carcase measurement and eating quality. With that background, he has always had an interest in breeding performance cattle with the right balance of structural integrity, maternal capacity, efficiency, eating quality and yield.
In 2020, after the prolonged drought, an opportunity to purchase 8 HBR Coolana M drop heifers with calves at foot by Esslemont General L114 (WECL114) from Corry’s Glen Angus stimulated the registering of an Angus stud and putting some of the 25 years of acquired expertise in genetics, carcase development and eating quality into practice.
ALLJAYS Angus was registered in 2020 as a family partnership with Melissa and our three daughters. Since that time, select cows from Kilburnie, Coolana, Dulverton, Robrick and recently Dalwinnie have been added to bring the stud to a nucleus of 20 breeding females. The stud is located on the outskirts of Armidale NSW.
The objective of ALLJAYS Angus is to breed a small number of Angus HBR yearling bulls for private sale each year. We aim to breed Angus bulls that meet future Australian beef industry requirements for a small number of clients. We have a strong focus on marbling and feed efficiency. All bulls are fully parent verified (PV), tested for PV, and performance testing through 50K+ genotyping and the Trans-Tasman Angus Cattle Evaluation (TACE) of Angus Australia. Bulls are fully semen and fertility tested by Bovine Breeders and independently structurally assessed. All females in the herd will also be parent verified, tested for PV, performance-tested, and TACE evaluated.
As we are a small stud, we see and work with our cattle every day. Temperament is paramount, as is maintaining female functionality. We only keep heifers (and bulls) that meet our high standards. We have and will continue to source the appropriate genetics via AI and ET and through the use of our yearling bulls.
